There was a time when road races were intimate. Small groups of committed athletes worked hard and pushed themselves toward the achievement of something significant. Although there have always been plenty of characters, it was never about the costume. Although the pay-off of a new personal best was significant and long lasting, it was never about the prizes.
Likewise, there was a time when Main Street was literally the main street; when local shopkeepers knew you and genuinely meant it when they thanked you for your business. Although there were plenty of treasures to be found if you looked, a personal referral meant something. Yes, there was a time when running a race was about the real people involved and the towns that hosted and cheered them on.
We thought it was about time to bring those groups back together.
WHEN: Sunday October 13, 2019. Half Marathon & 5K Race Start will be 8a, Walkers and push-rim / disabled athletes will begin at 7:30a. Start will be corraled and athletes will be released in waves based on estimated finish time. All athletes must complete the event by 11a. Given the point to point courses, Half marathoners have the option at registration to rsvp for a shuttle to the start, while 5k athletes will be shuttled from their finish (Camp Carr) back to Clinton.
WHERE: Main Street, Clinton NJ 08809 to Flemington NJ 08822. Start just over the bridge at the Red Mill and Finish on Stangl Rd. (5K finish at Camp Carr along half course). Pre-Race packet pickup, festitivies and street fair will take place on Main Street Clinton on Saturday 10/12/19 beginning at 1p
WHY: because small towns and the Main Streets that support them are the heart of America, and because taking care of the heart is key to a healthy body. Proceeds from the 2019 MSHM of Hunterdon will benefit local substance abuse prevention and recovery efforts.
OTHER DETAILS: This will be unlike any half marathon you've done before. Equal parts challenge, community and celebration...with a pre-race outdoor festival and street fair, a "Superhero Sprint" kids race down Main Street, entertainment, family and friends along the way, and a finish line party that rivals a rock show (complete with a few local "refreshments")...we're confident that when you finish you'll feel both challenged and proud, having completed something you won't soon forget!
